High School Science Curriculum

We are pleased to provide high school science teachers and tutors with the complimentary Science Matters online curriculum and learning tools to help them enhance and enrich their students' knowledge of science.

Science Matters' online curriculum is designed primarily to give science teachers tools they can use with their students in the classroom, either as part of their core curriculum or as enrichment activities. For example, the Check Your Understanding section under Explore this Topic ensure that students have understood the lesson, while the Exercise Your Brain section gives students the opportunity to apply their understanding to new, but related problems. This makes the Science Matters curriculum useful for students with different learning styles to acquire and apply new knowledge at their own pace. Science Matters curriculum is tied to the California Science Content Standards and the National Science Education Standards.

To date, we offer 15 online curriculum units, corresponding to our most popular Science Matters lectures from Grey Matters I, Grey Matters II and Evolution Matters and 6 units in Spanish. We will continue to expand the Science Matters curriculum offerings with additional funding resources and are grateful for the support received from Ray Thomas Edwards Foundation and McCarthy Family Foundation.

A essential part of UCSD Biological Sciences’ mission is to increase public understanding of biology and encourage scientific learning and discovery among K-12 teachers and schoolchildren. Science Matters online curriculum will continue to provide the online learning tools and resources needed to help inspire and educate the next generation of young scientists.
